MAPPING TREE

The mapping tree is the central component of the ButtonBox™ Mapping Utility. This tree is graphical representation of the web link hierarchy for a particular ButtonBox™ Desktop category. Web sites are added in a tiered fashion in order to assist the user in navigating the Internet in a catergorized fashion.

Terminolgy
Before proceeding, it might be helpful to understand the terminology used in conjunction with a tree.

Node: An individual entry (regardless of tier level) in called a node. Each node has a label and web address associated with it.

Root: The node at the top of the tree is called the root. When the corresponding category on the ButtonBox™ Desktop is selected, it is the web site of the root node that is displayed.

Sibling: Nodes that are on the same tier. In Figure 1, the nodes labeled "Photo Gallery", "Favorite Links", and "Comics" are siblings to each other. It should be noted that the ButtonBox™ Desktop software only allows six (6) siblings.

Child: Nodes that are down one level from the selected node. In Figure 1, the nodes labeled "Movie Listings" and "TV Listings" are children to "Favorite Links". It should be noted that the children are siblings to each other.

Parent: Node that is one level up from the selected node. In Figure 1, "Favorite Links" is the parent of the nodes labeled "Movie Listings" and "TV Listings".

You can either use the mouse pointer or the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate the mapping tree.

As each node is selected, its label in the mapping tree is highlighted (i.e. text displayed in reverse video). The node's supporting data is displayed in the node properties area. If the node has children, they are displayed in the desktop area.

Please refer to the Overview section of this online help for tree traversal examples.
